Windows Media Player “Now Listening To” rss functionality

I really wanted to find a plugin or program that could automatically create an rss feed of the songs played in Windows Media Player. I wanted to add the feed to facebook and also to this wordpress blog.

I found Brandon Fullers WMP plugin that seemed to be what I was looking for, as it was specifically designed for blogging.

However after I had downloaded and installed, I found that it required you to use blogging software to post and only included the currently playing song in that particular post. It had a facebook application to go with it, which worked however this wasnt really what i was looking for. (It also uploaded Video file names too which I really didn’t want)

A quick search on the actual facebook applications pointed me to the site.
Finally just what I wanted:

  • Windows Media Player 11 support.
  • Real-time uploading of data.
  • Stores a list of past plays.
  • Includes Facebook app.
  • Provides an RSS feed.

As you can see in my sidebar the song title and artist is displayed, along with date played. The sign up was really fast, plus the plugins work for iTunes and winamp, however I didn’t test WinAmp as I don’t have it installed.

It also asked me if I wanted to upload my recent play history from my Media Library for both iTunes and WMP.

The website looks like it provides a lot more services than just what I was after, customized radio stations and song suggestions based on your play history.

pretty sweet if you ask me (especially for free!)

Old School Breakfast

Made myself some breakfast, look I’ve got ‘soldiers’ and everything.

Soft-boiled eggs, soldiers and coffee

We got a Tefal Toast n’ Egg recently, It’s unbelievably easy to use (I know boiling/poaching an egg isn’t hard anyway) You just whack them in with a little bit of water and it’s all automatic.

Toast n\' Egg

We’ve also got a Tefal One Cup kettle, which heats water amazingly quick so you get a cuppa in no time at all.

Breakfast will never be the same again.

TV and Film streaming

Posted in Internet with tags on May 22, 2008 by micktay

I just thought It may be useful to put a link up. This is the website I am currently using, it links to services like, and loads of other chinese streaming sites.

It usually has films up as soon as or even before they come out, and has thousands of TV shows available.

RSS feeds from various sources

Posted in Web Design with tags on May 21, 2008 by micktay

I really like RSS, however I didn’t want to use a stand-alone RSS reader, or even goto the trouble of subscribing to certain feeds using Firefox, to be honest I’ve not even looked into this. Adding the feeds directly into my blog seemed an ideal solution.

I’ve just set up a tumblr account and whilst setting it up I added a few feeds from my other blogs and also a feed to my YouTube videos. I’d done this before, specifically on this page, as you can see to the right. However I wanted to display my favourites from my YouTube account alongside the videos I had posted. I thought that YouTube would have a feed for this already however this was not the case.

After googling I found a few sites that host a PHP application that utilises YouTubes API. I used the first one that I came across however I’m sure the others work in a similar way. Here is a link to the site I’m using at the moment.

It was quite simple to use.

This Blog has no direction

Posted in Random on January 9, 2008 by micktay

I have realised looking back through the limited number of posts contained in this blog, they are almost random posts, no consistency or coherence to them.

In short this blog is pretty useless.

Anyone coming to view this blog would leave with no real enhancement to their lives. I was about to scrap it however, I remembered what interested me in creating this blog in the first place.

It wasn’t to create interesting content, available to the masses, to get 1 million views before lunchtime and become an internet sensation.

I started this account purely to have a play about, to throw some layout and design ideas at wordpress to see what worked and what didn’t. The posts came merely as a secondary thought, some content to pad out the site, just so I would be able to visualise what my design would look like when applied to a REAL blog. I may as well have posted…

Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in
voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non
proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.

In short this was a failed exercise, I did not know that didn’t allow you to upload your own themes (or if they do I haven’t found the function). The most I have been able to customise is by adding my own header to a pre-made template created by some wordpress guru that has gotten their theme approved.

It has allowed me a glimpse albiet an abridged version of the true wonders of a full wordpress installation on a dedicated server. WordPress as a CMS definately deserves its reputation as one of the ‘top dogs’ in the field.

I’m going to keep this blog.

Although I may not post often and the posts may not be relevant to anyone in particular. I really like having all of my different accounts (, youtube, myspace) kind of neatly presented in one place.

Chimpanzee Research In Kyoto – Interesting result

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on December 5, 2007 by micktay

Heard about this on channel 4 news during a break in work. The speed in which they solve the number puzzles is astounding. Apparently a test group of 20 chimpanzees’ scored 80% overall, with a group of ‘human’ students scoring around the 40% mark (embedding disabled)
